Background
Overview
CoStar monetizes Apartments.com by charging property managers different levels of advertising for individual properties. Perspective renters would see a more elaborate placard in the search results page and more valuable information on properties that were paying for higher tier packages.
This is a system that works for larger properties that have availabilities throughout the year, but property managers for smaller properties did not wish to have an annual subscription service locked to one property. Current subscription options were locking them into a property that may or may not have regular availabilities throughout the year. Our solution was to create an alternative annual subscription option that allowed the property managers to switch between numerous properties based on monthly unit availabilities.

What we did
My role
  • Talked to current smaller property owners to develop an understanding of the problem.
  • Went through multiple rounds of sketching and wireframing.
  • Created a high-fidelity and responsive website design aligning with our Apartments.com design system.
  • Used the high-fidelity design to conduct rapid usability testing.
  • Documented all spacing, page elements, and page details into a handoff document.
  • Ran multiple rounds of visual quality assurance on dev environment implementations.
Outcomes
  • Feature contributes a projected additional annual revenue of $19.5M for CoStar Group.
  • Small property owners finally have a product offering that caters to their experience.
  • Developers gained familiarity in using Figma.
  • Developer handoff documentation standards were set.
